It turned out to be a short week for us this week, 22 hours each, due to the Easter break and waiting for an inspection, no harm done as we achieved everything that was in the diary for this week, it may have been short but it was heavy.
Ari and i continued levelling the base on Tuesday, we had a few hours there as we were waiting on the second major delivery, this time it was the foundation blocks, breeze blocks (cinder blocks) and the mortar to hold it all together.
FIRST INSTALLMENT, BREEZEBLOCKS BEING UNLOADED

NOW IT'S THE TURN OF THE MORTAR

PLACING THEM ON THE SITE, GET THEM IN THE RIGHT PLACE AND DON'T HAVE TO CARRY THEM TOO FAR AFTERWARDS

THIS IS A FOUNDATION CONCRETE FORM, 60X60CM IT HOLDS 45 LITRES OF CONCRETE, JUST BUTT JOINT THEM TOGETHER TO THE REQUIRED SHAPE, VERY FAST AND SIMPLE

PLACING THE FIRST BLOCK IN THE FOUNDATIONS, 114 BLOCKS IN THE HOUSE AND 60 IN THE GARAGE FOUNDATIONS

JUST FOLLOW THE LINES AND IT'S AN EASY TASK

FINAL MEASUREMENT TO MAKE SURE IT'S CORRECT

GROUNDING CABLE PLACED UNDER THE STONES, THIS IS NEW, USED TO BE ENOUGH THAT IT WENT ALL THE WAY AROUND, NOW IT HAS TO ACTUALLY BE IN THE CONCRETE.

FIRST ROW COMPLETED

AND ANOTHER

STEEL REINFORCING

CLOSE UP OF REINFORCING SHOWING GROUND CABLE ATTACHED

HOUSE FOUNDATIONS COMPLETE, INDIVIDUAL BLOCKS ARE THE SUPPORTS FOR THE TERRACE PILLARS. HOUSE FOUNDATIONS TOOK 5 HOURS TO DO. TRADITIONAL METHOD USING TIMBER FORM WOULD BE 2 DAYS

SAME VIEW DIFFERENT ANGLE

NOW THE TURN OF THE GARAGE, MUCH SIMPLER AS IT IS JUST A RECTANGLE

READY

WE WERE FORCED TO USE TIMBER FOR PART OF THE GARAGE AS SO MANY OF THE FOUNDATION BLOCKS WERE BROKEN IN TRANSIT
I should point out, at this stage we require an inspection from the towns engineer, he checks to see that we have sufficient reinforcing in the foundations, also that it is done to the correct standard, if it passes he then stamps the papers and we can carry on with filling the mould.
We passed inspection, so now we have the liquid concrete on order, 7.6 m3 it has plenty of time to set over the weekend

FILLING THE MOULD, I HAVE THE FILLING PIPE AND ARI IS DOING THE LEVELLING

OUR NEIGHBOURS ACROSS THE ROAD TOOK DELIVERY OF THEIR ´´FLATPACK´´ HOUSE, NO NOT IKEA, IT IS OMATALO, ´´GOOGLE IT´´

IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE WHO FINISHES FIRST, THEY HAVE A 3 WEEK START ON US., I'LL TAKE AN OCCASIONAL PIC TO LET YOU SEE PROGRESS.
So that is it for this week, quite satisfied as we are still on schedule, no gremlins made an appearance yet
